At Hayfield, we pride ourselves on cultivating a life-long appreciation for the arts. Many of our alumni have turned their love for theatre into their career. Meet some of our lovely alumni below.
Collin Chute (class of 2007) earned his BFA in acting from VCU. He currently is an actor, writer, and director in Los Angeles California. He also does a weekly Washington Redskins podcast which you can find on Sound Cloud titles "Redskins Hangover."
Apolonia Davalos (class of 2005 - AEA/ WIFT-Nashville and TWIFM Member) is a film and Off-Broadway theater director and actress. She is named after APPOLLONIA, an ancient, biblical town, in Macedonia, Greece, south of Lake Bolbe, known today as Nea Apollonia. Her upcoming short, modern-western film, “Children of War”, debuted through the film festival circuit in 2016. She is the co-writer and co-star of the online radio broadcast “The Baby Shug’s Show!” As an actor, her feature film credits include: “The Good Book” (on DVD), “Fearsville 2” (recently released in select theaters), “Providence” (on DVD), “The Perfect Wedding” (on DVD), etc. In theater, she received great acclaim for the originated role of LYNN CORDERO in the Off-Broadway production of “Looking for Billy Haines” in Times Square (NYC). Other theater credits include: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (The Nashville Shakespeare Festival); Boston’s professional premiere of “Metamorphoses” (The Boston Actors Theater): “The Crucible” (Salem Theatre Company); and “Sisters of the Church” (Afrikan Women’s Repertory Theatre). She is further recognized as a producer, director, writer, as well as an inspiring advocate for classical Greek theater through her production company APOLONIAD Productions. Known for her hearty laugh, talent for accents, love for martial arts, and singing classic 1930’s tunes!
Sara Joy Lebowitz (Class of ‘96) received a BS in Management with a minor in Theatre from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2000, her teaching license in both Theatre Arts and Mathematics in April 2007, and a Masters of Art in Theatre Education from Catholic University in 2013. She has been teaching Theatre Arts at Mark Twain Middle School since August 2007. Before obtaining her teaching license, she worked for the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. She continues to perform, direct, and write plays for community theatre companies in the DC/VA/MD area.
Jenny McConnell Frederick (Class of '94) is the co-Artistic Director of Rorschach Theatre and Artistic Director of Source Festival. She founded Rorschach in the summer of 1999 with Randy Baker.
Jenny also serves as Director of Performing Arts (and currently Interim Deputy Director) at CulturalDC. As Artistic Director of CulturalDC’s Source Festival she oversees the selection, development and production of 24 new works for the stage each year.
In the DC Area she has directed for Theater J, Young Playwrights Theatre, Catholic University and Word Dance Theatre.
Jenny is a member of Young Playwrights Theatre Artistic Company and a former member of the Helen Hayes Awards Board of Governors, and the Hub Theatre Advisory Board. She graduated cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Theatre. She lives in Columbia Heights, DC with her husband and their long term collaboration, a son named Thane.
Kristen Garaffo (class of 2005) received her BFA in musical theatre from the Boston Conservatory. She now resides in Rockville, MD, is a member of Actors Equity, and has performed at Fords Theatre, The Hub Theatre, Folger Theatre, Adventure Theatre, 1st Stage, and the Capital Fringe Festival. Kristen is also a certified yoga teacher, a life coach, and is currently writing and developing a play of her own.
Katie Courlander (class of 2007) is a DC area theatre and film actress. Katie received her B.A. in Theatre from Virginia Wesleyan College. Locally, Katie has worked with The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory, The Unexpected Stage, Grain of Sand Theatre, and Out-Side the Box Theatre. In 2012, Katie worked with The Educational Theatre Company as a teaching artist in their "Shakespeare in the Schools" program portraying the roles of Hermia, Juliet, and Tybalt. Katie is a co-founder and the Managing Director of Red Knight Productions, a VA based independent theatre company. Katie has originated roles in the RKP productions Medieval Story Land, The Ballad of the Red Knight, and Witches. Katie was fortunate enough to return to Hayfield in 2016 as the Middle School Theatre Director.
